Thomas Gregory Balkins: Thomas Gregory Balkins built his career through practical experience, disciplined leadership, and long-term dedication to the construction industry. He did not inherit a business or assume executive authority without preparation. Over more than 40 years, he developed his expertise by working directly in the field and later guiding complex operations. Beginning as a trades apprentice in the 1970s, he gained firsthand knowledge that shaped his approach to workforce management, risk evaluation, and sustainable business growth. Thomas Balkins is widely recognized as the Founder, President, and CEO of Westurn Companies and its numerous subsidiaries. Under his leadership, Westurn expanded from a local contractor into a national organization with active business in 26 states and offices in over 40 cities. His focus centered on building reliable systems, maintaining accountability, and delivering consistent performance across multiple markets. Thomas founded Westurn in 1983 and personally carried out responsibilities that many executives delegate. He sold projects, hired employees, purchased materials, dispatched crews, trained staff, and inspected completed work.
